Yasothon
Yasothon is famous for its boisterous Rocket Festival every May, when giant home-made missiles are launched into the air in a symbolic rain-making gesture. Yasothon is known for its Rocket Festival, held every May. Huge homemade firerockets are shot into the air to symbolize the coming rains. Other attractions include Phra That Yasothon, an ancient chedi constructed in the classical Lao style. Enshrined there are the holy relics of Phra Ananda, a noted disciple of Lord Buddha. Also located in the town of Wat Mahathat is an ancient Khmer chedi, Kong Khao Noi, home to a stunning brick and stucco Buddha. Each April locals come to bathe the Buddha in a ritual ceremony. Yasothon has an area of 4,161 square kilometers. It is divided into the following districts: Muang, Kham Khuean Kaeo, Maha Chana Chai, Pa Tio, Loeng Nok Tha, Kut Chum, Kho Wang, Sai Mun and Thai Charoen.
