Tak

What :

For nearly 1,000 years Tak protected the southern provinces of Thailand from Burmese incursions. Bordering Myanmar along the entirety of its western border, Tak has been the gateway and the guardian of Thailand.

Today, Tak is peaceful, with a bridge connecting Myanmar and Thailand built in recent years to facilitate trade between the two nations. The area is still largely rural, and numerous hill tribes like the Karen still reside in the mountains and dense forests living traditionally simple lifestyles.

Largely rural, hiking and trekking are popular excursions here for travelers touring Thailand. Many national parks cover the mountains and forests in the area, and Lang San National Park’s numerous waterfalls are a memorable stop.

When :

Tak’s best weather falls between November and January. March through May seasonal rains come to the area, and the highest temperatures mark the months from June to October.

Where :

Tak is the capital city of Tak Province in Northern Thailand bordering Myanmar. The province and town are best reached by private vehicle, and is worth a stop when heading north from Bangkok to Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai.

Who :

A town with rich history means there’s plenty to see and do for cultural enthusiasts, but the verdant forests and wonderful national parks are surely the biggest draw to the province on luxury tours of Thailand.

Appropriate Attire :

Western style clothing is fine for most activities, but treks into the jungle or to visit any of the hill tribes living in the area mean good shoes are a must.

Jason & Cindy Burgess - October 2013

My family and I took a two week long tour of Thailand with Easy Tours of Thailand and the trip truly could not have been any better.

Our guide was very personable, knowledgeable, and her English was excellent. In addition to offering a unique and local perspective throughout the tour, we were completely at ease with her and felt that she truly wanted to make our experience the best it could possibly be.

The private driver and vehicle that was set up for us was also excellent. I knew prior to our trip that it would probably be best to reserve this type of service during our travels, but I had no idea how invaluable this ended up being for us. He maneuvered through crowded streets and unexpected roadblocks with ease, and knew which areas to avoid driving through and efficient alternative routes. To top it off, the vehicle was always very clean, air conditioned, and there were cold drinks waiting for us after visiting a site.

The tour itself was completely tailored to what we wanted to see and what our interests are with assistance from their U.S Sales Office prior to arriving in Bangkok. They provided a day by day itinerary for us which was great, but the best part was having the freedom to change things as needed, or make unexpected stops to explore, as the tour unfolded.

I would definitely use this company again if we go back to Thailand.
