Sukhothai Historical Park

What :

Sukhothai Historical Park is the remains of the first capital of one of earliest Thai civilizations. The Thai alphabet originated here and the area is considered to be the cradle of Thai civilization. The ruins became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the 90s.

193 structures remain of this ancient capitol spanning some 27 miles. The structures have been painstakingly restored and preserved by the park staff, many of which are in the unique Sukhothai style. The city’s royal chapel, Wat Mahathat, is the centerpiece structure located in the heart of the complex next to the ruins of the city palace. Buddha images abound in the park and many of them are softly lit in the evening by golden lights that give the ancient city a mystical vibe.

Much of the extensive network of roads and canal ways that made up the ancient city’s infrastructure has been lost to the ages, but numerous lotus ponds and moats that look like manmade lakes still dot the landscape.

Due to the size of the grounds, a bicycle is the perfect way to see the historical site while on a luxury tour of Thailand.

When :

June through October rains in the region make the verdant jungle particularly lush. March to May mark the highest temperatures, and the beast weather is from November to January.

Where :

The Sukhothai Historical Park lies just outside the modern city of Sukhothai, in Sukhothai Province, Northern Thailand.

The park is best reached by private vehicle departing from Sukhothai Town.

Who :

The unique architecture of the remaining structures of the ancient city of Sukhothai is a veritable playground for culture and history enthusiasts. Sukhothai Historical Park is a must-see for any tour in Thailand.

Appropriate Attire :

With plenty of ground to cover and ruins to climb, it’s best to dress for a hike with good shoes while visiting the park.

Bruce Goldman -  November 2013

Having a kind aversion toward travel companies, because of my own ability to develop an original itinerary, I was pleasantly surprised at the level of ease and convenience this company provided.

My wife and I decided on a whim to get married and honeymoon in Thailand (since that was her number one destination spot). Not being familiar with that part of the world, and having already run the gamut of a 200 person wedding party, it was in our best interest to hire an experienced company to make our lives just a little bit easier for the honeymoon. Best decision ever.

We reworked the itinerary with the specialist two or three times and probably drove her nuts. Still, they were extremely patient and found us the best deal to suit our needs.

Daily activities planned for us included excursions to important sites such as the Tiger Temple, river boat tours through the canals and authentic spicy thai indulgences (J woop, my favorite!).

So, if you're looking for extra value added to a travelling experience, I would definitely recommend hiring Easy Yours. They know what they're doing.'
