Pathum Thani
Located on the Chao Phraya river basin, Pathum Thani is a vibrant province with a rich agricultural tradition. Numerous canals provide an ideal environment for the orange plantations which dominate the province. Originally called Mueang Sam Khok, Pathum Thani dates back to the Ayutthaya era when the Mon settlers came over from Myanmar. When King Rama II visited the people in 1815, they greeted him with an abundance of lotus flowers – the origin of the province’s new name.
Located a mere 46 kilometers from Bangkok, Pathum Thani covers over 1,500 square kilometers and is divided into 7 districts: Muang Pathum Thani, Lat Lum Kaeo, Sam Khok, Thanyaburi, Nong Suea, Khlong Luang, and Lam Luk Ka.
