Koh Kood (Koh Kut)

Being only a little bit smaller than Koh Phangan, Kood Island is fairly sizeable in terms of square footage. It does however have a notably quiet personality. The island is home to some very high-end resorts and a few, more modest accommodations, but not much else other than some stunning beaches with crystal clear water. Taxis are non-existent, and the only way to get around is by renting a motorbike. There is almost no shopping and there are few restaurants outside of the resorts. Koh Kood is definitely high on the list for those who seek the perfect, quiet beach vacation. The lack of human traffic on the island lends it some of the most pristine beaches and scenery anywhere in Thailand. It is very close to the border with Cambodia; a fact noticeable in the faces of the island natives.

Getting There:
Part of the draw of Koh Kood is the fact that visitors from Bangkok can travel there from the city in 4-5 hours by car. The pier to reach the island is just outside of the city of Trat near the Cambodia border. A 20-minute drive from Trat, followed by a 1-hour boat ride delivers visitors to Koh Kood. There are also daily flights into Trat from Bangkok, Phuket, and Koh Samui.

Weather:
Koh Kood is prone to the summer monsoons, which come to the area June through September. October through May is the best time to visit.

Accommodations:
There are but a few places to stay on Koh Kood, which is directly related to the unspoiled nature of the island. Nearly all of the resorts are of the upscale variety.

Activities:
Hiking on the interior of the island is a great adventure. Kayaking in the mangrove forest on the island is a must. There are some waterfalls visitors can explore as well.  There is a chain of 6 islands that are a 30-minute boat ride from Koh Kood. These islands are known for their desolation and clear water for excellent snorkeling. There is almost no nightlife on the island at all.

Beaches:
Virtually all of the beaches on Koh Kood are picturesque and feature excellent sand and crystal clear water. The low number of people on the island make it very easy to find your own private spot.
