Jim Thompson House

What :

The quiet refuge of an American silk baron, Jim Thompson House sits enclosed in jungle-like grounds not far from the heart of Bangkok.

The home was built from portions of several traditional Thai style homes dismantled and shipped to Bangkok. Completed in 1959, Thompson’s home was soon filled with the art and antiquities he collected over the previous 10 years while he was building his silk empire.

Though Thompson disappeared mysteriously in 1967 in Malaysia, The Thai Silk Company he founded continues to be a top global exporter of Thai silk.

Today the grounds are a museum featuring the many fine antiquities he collected while living and working in Thailand during the post-World War II era. Travelers on luxury tours of Thailand come to see one of the finest collections of sculptures, art, and other antiquities in the country.

When :

The museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and busiest in the high season running October through February. The shade provided by the jungle landscape is a great way to escape the midday heat running up to the rainy season in June and August.

Where :

Not far from the center of Bangkok, Jim Thompson House can easily be reached using either a private vehicle service or the city’s modern rail systems.

Who :

The tasteful displays of antiquities inside, and the delightfully lush jungle landscaping outside are a must-see destination on any Thailand tour itinerary.

Appropriate Attire :

Western wear is perfectly acceptable on the museum grounds.

Bruce Goldman -  November 2013

Having a kind aversion toward travel companies, because of my own ability to develop an original itinerary, I was pleasantly surprised at the level of ease and convenience this company provided.

My wife and I decided on a whim to get married and honeymoon in Thailand (since that was her number one destination spot). Not being familiar with that part of the world, and having already run the gamut of a 200 person wedding party, it was in our best interest to hire an experienced company to make our lives just a little bit easier for the honeymoon. Best decision ever.

We reworked the itinerary with the specialist two or three times and probably drove her nuts. Still, they were extremely patient and found us the best deal to suit our needs.

Daily activities planned for us included excursions to important sites such as the Tiger Temple, river boat tours through the canals and authentic spicy thai indulgences (J woop, my favorite!).

So, if you're looking for extra value added to a travelling experience, I would definitely recommend hiring Easy Yours. They know what they're doing.'
