Hill Tribe Villages

What :

The hill tribes of Northern Thailand are several distinct indigenous groups that have lived in the Golden Triangle Region for centuries as subsistence farmers.

Comprised of multiple ethnic groups, the hill tribes have distinct languages, styles of dress, and cultures from one another. The Akha, Lahu, Karen, Hmong, Mien, Paduang and Lisu tribes can be found in the mountains of Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar. The bright clothing, hand crafted goods, and intriguing culture of these hill tribes entice travelers on luxury tours of Thailand to visit the sleepy villages of these indigenous people.

Of these tribes, the famous “long-necked” women of the Paduang are probably the most recognized. As part of the Paduang culture, women begin wearing a series of interlocking brass rings around their necks at an early age, and add an additional ring each birthday.

When :

The best weather for tours of Northern Thailand is during the temperate November through January season. The heaviest rain falls June through October, and the highest temperatures run February through May.

Where :

Hill tribe villages dot the Northern Thailand mountain ranges. The most traveler friendly villages lie in the northernmost province of Chiang Rai. These villages are best accessed by a private vehicle.

Who :

Cultural enthusiasts on tours of Thailand are particularly fond of experiencing the simple life style of the hill tribes. The distinct dress, cuisine, languages, and hospitality of these indigenous groups leave lasting impressions on visitors.

Appropriate Attire :

Western wear is acceptable in the villages.

If you want to get the most out of your trip to Thailand and have a personalized experience that you will enjoy the entire way, book with Easy Tours of Thailand. We had a fantastic time.

The Thai food was amazing and our guide knew the best local and authentic places to dine. The amount of knowledge and insight our guide had about each site, and Thai culture overall, was so helpful. We could have visited these sites on our own, but having our guide along the way really gave us an entirely different perspective and made our experiences seem "full."

Our guides made sure we arrived to popular sites ahead of big tour groups so that we could get the best photo ops (they acted as great amateur photographers too!), and also guided us to amazing 'off the beaten track' areas that I am so glad we didn't miss. We saw everything we wanted to see and more. From the moment we were picked up from our hotel in the morning everything was expertly taken care of the whole way.

We were also provided a private driver and vehicle that was air conditioned (very important!) and safely driven. All things considered, the price of the tour is very reasonable and well worth the money.

I would highly recommend Easy Tours of Thailand to anyone thinking about doing a similar tour.
