Chumphon
Parallel to the gulf of Thailand, Chumphon is the gateway to the southern provinces. It boasts over 200 kilometers of idyllic beaches and a relaxed atmosphere.
The province has been home to communities dating back to the pre-historic period, particularly the region on the Tha Tapho River banks. The province was once a leading trade center of Siam. The name Chumphon is derived from Chumnumphon, meaning “the accumulation of forces.” This is fitting since the Thai army often gathered their forces in the province, setting up frontier cities and heavily guarded forts.
