Bangkok

Founded in 1782, Bangkok is the cultural touchstone of Thailand. A major hub for spiritual, diplomatic, educational and commercial pursuits, the capital city has spent the last few decades evolving into a decidedly modern and sophisticated destination. The city alone extends over 1,500 square miles and more than 10% of Thailand’s population (or nearly 10 million people) reside there.
Bangkok is a tourist’s paradise; a mixture of heritage sites and cultural activities are available, as well as all the usual cosmopolitan delights of a major city. Because Thailand was never colonized, its heritage has remained free of western influence. This makes the metropolis even more fascinating to travellers. Here in Bangkok, the ancient and modern meld to form a dynamic cultural destination.
The city’s attractions range from Buddhist temples (over 400 are scattered throughout the city), cultural dance performances, outstanding shopping, breathtaking palaces and colorful festivals. The incredible canals which wind through the city have led to the nickname “the Venice of the East.” Visitors may take a trip along the Chao Phraya River, gaining a unique perspective of the ancient city. No trip to Thailand is complete without a stay in Bangkok.
